Promising PracticesEstill County Middle SchoolEntrepreneurshipThis program focuses on a group of twenty-five seventh graders. It's intent is to show students how to develop their own Entrepreneurship, while helping them to develop their reading, math, and writing skills. They also develop their knowledge base surrounding social studies and technology. Students are walked through the process of developing a business plan, and begin to start their own business. Students then compete in a local and state level competition. Training for staff members in the NFTE program. (National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurships.) We have had students who have not been very successful in the classroom excel in this class. We have also had students receive 2nd place in the state business plan competition two years in a row. The total cost for this program will vary. We spend approximately $5,000.00 dollars a year for staff, supplies, student's business start-up money, field trips, and etc. Possible resources for funding include business partners, school allocations, Youth Service Centers, and mini-grants.
